What is Heidi Remote?

What does Heidi Remote do?

Heidi Remote is a wearable microphone that transcribes your consultations and syncs audio to the Heidi app automatically. It also works in offline mode, allowing you to transcribe on the move, and sync at a more convenient time.

What is Heidi Remote compatible with?

Heidi Remote currently pairs with the Heidi iOS mobile app only (from v3.0.0). Once connected, Remote transcriptions are automatically synced into Scribe sessions. Support for Android and Heidi desktop app are coming soon. Remote is not currently compatible with the web application of Heidi (e.g. when accessing Heidi through your web browser).

Where can I download the Heidi app?

Search for Heidi in the App Store, or visit heidihealth.com/download. A desktop app is also available at the same link.

Is Heidi Remote a medical device?

No. Heidi Remote is a general-purpose audio peripheral. It is not supplied or regulated as a medical device in any jurisdiction. When used in a healthcare setting, you remain solely responsible for all professional and clinical decisions.

Is Heidi Remote fully released?

Setting up for the first time

How do I turn on Heidi Remote?

Press and hold the Power button on the side of the Remote for 2 seconds. A solid white light means the Remote is on and ready.

To turn it off, press and hold the Power button again for 2 seconds.

How do I pair Heidi Remote to the Heidi app?

You can only pair one Remote to one Heidi app. You only need to complete the pairing process once. After this, Heidi Remote will be ready to go whenever in range.

  1. Make sure Heidi Remote is charged, powered on and close to your phone.

  2. Sign in to your Heidi app.

  3. Go to Settings → Add Device within the app and follow the on-screen instructions.

You do not need to pair or connect Heidi Remote directly in your mobile or desktop’s bluetooth settings. Instead, Heidi Remote will connect automatically and pairing is completed directly in the Heidi app.

What is a default note template?

The Heidi App will automatically sync completed transcriptions when in range. This means that a default note template needs to be selected upon set-up of the Remote and all sessions will transcribe in this format. This default template can be updated through the Remote settings within the app.

Where can I find my Remote serial number?

The serial number is printed on the Remote. This will come in handy when contacting support.

Wearing and placement

Where should I wear Heidi Remote?

For the best audio quality, clip the Remote high on your chest, near the collar line, with the microphone facing outward. A stable, unobstructed position close to you will give the clearest audio.

What are the different ways to attach it?

Heidi Remote can be worn or attached in several ways:

  • Magnetically through clothing (recommended)

  • Clipped onto a collar, bag, or clipboard

  • Placed directly onto a magnetic metal surface (such as a monitor stand) without the backing clip

Are there any safety considerations for wearing it?

The Remote contains magnetic components. Keep it away from implanted medical devices such as pacemakers or defibrillators. Follow your facility's safety policies when using the lanyard. Keep the Remote out of reach of children - small parts and magnets can present a choking hazard.

Data and security

How does Heidi Remote protect my data?

Heidi Remote is designed with privacy at its core. It only transcribes audio when actively initiated by yourself, the User. A visible LED indicates when transcription is in progress, ensuring transparency for all parties. All audio is encrypted at rest on Heidi Remote and is automatically deleted once synchronised to your Heidi app. Heidi Remote connects only to your paired device via an encrypted wireless connection. You are responsible for obtaining all required transcribing consents under applicable law in their jurisdiction.

Where is my audio saved?

Transcriptions are saved locally on the Remote first, then securely transmitted to your app over encrypted channels. Once audio has been transcribed and sessions have synced with the app, the transcriptions will be removed from your Heidi Remote.

Does Heidi Remote keep audio transcriptions forever?

No. Audio is saved temporarily to the Remote, and is automatically deleted once synchronised to your Heidi account.

What happens to data when I remove the Remote from my account?

All locally stored transcriptions are permanently deleted from the Remote when you remove it from your app. The Remote will be unlinked from your account, and wireless pairing is cleared. The Remote cannot access any previous account data after removal.

Do I need to follow any data protection rules when using Heidi Remote in a healthcare setting?

Yes. You are responsible for ensuring your use of Heidi Remote complies with local healthcare data protection regulations, your institution's privacy policies, and applicable laws such as GDPR, HIPAA, or their equivalents. If you are sharing a Remote with other team members, you will need to unpair the Remote from your app once you are finished with it. This will ensure any of your unsynced sessions are deleted.
